Wyndham Championship purse, payouts: Michael Brennan runs away from the field to secure FedExCup Playoffs spot

Michael Brennan's first win of the season came at the perfect time.

Brennan ran away from the field down the stretch on Sunday at Sedgefield Country Club in North Carolina to claim the season-ending Wyndham Championship. The victory, just the second of Brennan's PGA Tour career, earned him a spot in the FedExCup Playoffs.

Brennan, who entered the final round with a share of the lead, ended up posting a 6-under 64 on Sunday to take a three-shot win over the rest of the field. The victory also earned Brennan a check worth more than $1.5 million.

Brennan sealed his win with a birdie putt at the 18th, which dropped him to 22-under on the week. Naturally, that led to a huge celebration.

"I don't want to be done playing golf," Brennan said on CBS. "I feel like I've played the best golf I've had all year the last couple weeks. … This is my sixth week in a row, so seven is a lot, but I think I'm going to be perfectly happy running on fumes next week."

Brennan's best shot of the day was at the seventh hole. He came just a few inches away from a hole-in-one after a ridiculous tee shot on the par-3. That was part of a stretch where he carded five straight birdies.

Beau Hossler finished alone in second at 19-under on the week, thanks to a huge birdie at the 17th. Ben James, thanks to a 9-under 61 in the final round, jumped up to finish solo third.

The win is the second of Brennan's career. He picked up his inaugural victory last season at the Bank of Utah Championship. Brennan entered Sunday having made the cut in 16 of 22 starts this season on Tour, though he had just a single top-10 finish to his name. 

Brennan entered the week at No. 58 in the Official World Golf Rankings, and at No. 105 in the FedExCup standings. Brennan's win launched him 58 spots in the FedExCup rankings to No. 47, which has him safely in the field at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

The top 70 and ties in the FedExCup standings will advance into the postseason, which kicks off next week in Memphis. Rookie Jackson Koivun, who turned pro only last month before snagging his first career win just a few weeks later, is the last man into the playoffs. He finished at No. 70 in the standings after a final-round 71 on Sunday.

"There was definitely some added pressure with the FedExCup Playoffs," Koivun said on CBS. “I definitely went out there and gave it all I had. … At the end of the day, the golf swing wasn't where it needed to be to get a good number up."
