Longtime Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow announces retirement at end of 2026 season

Mike Krukow, a former San Francisco Giants player-turned-longtime Giants broadcaster, announced his retirement on Thursday. Krukow will retire at the end of the 2026 season.

In a statement shared by the Giants, Krukow said he and his wife Jennifer wanted to thank fans and the organization for their support. (He also referenced the Green Day song "Good Riddance" in his statement.)

"Jennifer and I have been so blessed to be able to stay in the game for as long as we have and it's really made it impossible to feel sorry for myself that my career is coming to an end," Krukow said. "We are bracing for the emotional hits we know we are going to feel in the next few weeks. Jennifer and I are wondering if it is even possible to let everyone know how deeply we love and respect our Giants family.

"Our time together has been a gift. When Green Day asked, 'I hope you've had the time of your lives," we certainly have."

Giants president and CEO Larry Baer, who has been part of the organization almost as long as Krukow, wrote about the longtime broadcaster's impact on the franchise in a statement.

"While we knew this day would eventually come, Mike Krukow stepping away from the broadcast booth is a deeply emotional moment for our Giants family," Baer wrote. "We often talk about what it means to a be a Forever Giant. No one embodies that more completely than Kruk. His impact extends far beyond the broadcast booth. He's been one of the great ambassadors for this franchise, and his passion, spirit, character and love for the Giants have shaped this organization for generations."

Krukow, 74, has spent decades as the color commentator for the Giants' local NBC telecasts and KNBR radio, alongside longtime broadcast partner Duane Kuiper. Krukow has won 13 Emmy awards for his work, and has been a finalist multiple times for the Ford C. Frick award, presented by the National Baseball Hall of Fame to honor excellence in broadcasting.

Krukow started his time with the Giants as a player: As a major league pitcher, Krukow started his career with the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies before landing in San Francisco in 1983. He pitched for the Giants for seven seasons, earning an All-Star nod in 1986, before retiring in 1989. Krukow then transitioned into broadcasting the following year.

Krukow is exiting the game in a bit of a rough season for the Giants: The team is listlessly struggling in the NL with a 48-67 record and sent away their highest-performing player, Luis Arraez, before the trade deadline.
