Michael Kim clinches round of 59 with 24-foot birdie on 18th hole at 3M Open

Michael Kim achieved the PGA Tour's 16th round ever of 59 or lower on Friday by going 12-under par at the 3M Open.

A day after shooting 69 during the first round, Kim reeled off six birdies on the front nine before finishing with four to end his round. To make history, the 33-year-old needed to sink a 24-foot putt on the 18th hole.

"To be honest, I'm afraid I'm going to wake up from my hotel bed," Kim told PGA Tour Live after the round. "So far, it feels real."

Kim made 12 birdies no bogeys on Friday. On the final two holes, he drained a 17-foot putt and the 24-footer to secure the 59.

"It was a pretty poor wedge shot to put myself there," Kim said of his putt on 18. "I was pretty comfortable with the read, it was pretty good uphill and I just thought to myself 'make sure to get it there, even if you hit it too hard' and about 3 feet out I was just hoping it wouldn't lip out and it went in."

The 59 is the first of the 2026 PGA Tour season and a new course record at TPC Twin Cities. Jake Knapp was the last player to achieve the feat during the 2025 Cognizant Classic.

Kim has jumped into first place after 36 holes. He's seeking his first win on the PGA Tour since the 2018 John Deere Classic.
