Fernando Tatis blasts longest HR of MLB season, Manny Machado hits 2 as Padres pummel Braves' pitching

The Padres had a field day against Braves pitching on Tuesday, including the longest home run of the MLB season by Fernando Tatis Jr.

The final tally produced four San Diego home runs, including two from Manny Machado, in an 8-3 win over Atlanta.

Jackson Merrill got the home run barrage started with a solo shot off of Braves starter Reynaldo López. That tied the game 2-2 in the fourth inning.

Machado followed with another solo shot to lead off the fifth and extend San Diego's lead to 5-2. López was finished one out and two batters later, having allowed five earned runs in 4 1/3 innings.

Machado added another solo shot in the sixth inning for his 22nd home run of the season.

With a chance to add an exclamation point and upstage Machado, Tatis delivered with one man on in the top of the eighth.

Braves reliever JR Ritchie left a curveball hanging over the heart of the plate on a full count. Tatis swung and deposited the ball deep into the center-field bleachers for an 8-3 Padres lead. He immediately knew it was gone.

When it finally landed, the ball had traveled 474 feet and bounced into the center-field concourse.

The home run took the lead for the longest in MLB in 2026 by a foot, besting a 473-foot blast by Atlanta's Drake Baldwin on June 16 against the Giants.

The home run capped a standout day at the plate for Tatis, who went 3 for 5 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Machado went 2 for 5 with his pair of solo home runs accounting for 2 runs and 2 RBI. The Padres improved to 50-51 to move within two games of the final NL wild-card spot.

The NL East-leading Braves dropped to 58-42 with the loss.
