Maxx Crosby and Kirk Cousins reportedly need to be separated in Raiders training camp scuffle

Tempers reportedly flared at Las Vegas Raiders training camp on Friday, with starting quarterback Kirk Cousins and star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby needing to be separated according to ESPN and the California Post.

The fun reportedly began when Crosby hit Cousins' throwing arm twice during practice. After the second hit, Cousins got into Crosby's face, grabbed his jersey and exchanged words until teammates stepped in to break it up.

No punches were thrown, but the incident still left rookie Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak answering questions after practice. The coach downplayed the seriousness

"That's training camp. Those are two leaders of our team going at it. That is part of camp. Obviously, fighting in a game, you throw a punch in a game, then you are out of the game. So we got to be smart."

ESPN notes that Crosby had said before training camp that the coaching staff warned him about touching the quarterback in practice, which has been something of an issue during his career.

He indicated it was a hard habit to shake, via ESPN:

"When you get out there and bullets are flying, I'm not thinking about not finishing the play. That's just not in my nature," Crosby said at the start of training camp. "That's something I've been dealing with my whole career. It's not easy."

Crosby is entering his eighth season with the Raiders, a tenure that nearly ended via a spiked trade to the Baltimore Ravens, while Cousins joined the team in the spring on a contract that is effectively for one year and $20 million, though it could wind up lasting for as long as five years and $172 million.

Kubiak named Cousins as the Raiders' starting quarterback last month ahead of Fernando Mendoza, the No. 1 pick of the 2026 NFL Draft and the team's quarterback of the future.
