Stefon Diggs signs with Commanders: What does it mean for fantasy football in 2026?

The Washington Commanders added a big-name veteran to the receiving corps with the signing of WR Stefon Diggs to a one-year, $12 million contract on Wednesday. The move comes as NFL teams progress through the first full week of training camps — with the first preseason game on Thursday between the Panthers and Cardinals.

Adding Diggs gives the Commanders — and QB Jayden Daniels — another weapon in the passing game next to Terry McLaurin. The Yahoo Fantasy Forecast wasted no time getting into it and breaking down what the move means for 2026 fantasy football.

Chris Allen believes that Washington as a landing spot for Diggs makes a lot of sense when you looked at the depth chart. Treylon Burks was set to be the No. 2 wideout behind McLaurin. Behind those two was going to be a hodge podge of names including Van Jefferson, Dyami Brown and Luke McCaffrey.

Adding Diggs gives new OC David Blough a player who can play that Z-receiver role or work out of the slot, per Allen. Hindsight may be 20/20 but this move makes a lot of sense.

Host Matt Harmon sees it as a perfect fit as well. This does put a damper on Year 1 of rookie Antonio Williams in Washington. The third-rounder out of Clemson was expected to compete for a role right away. In dynasty fantasy football, Williams will still have value, but in redraft we may need to wait a bit.

Last season, Diggs was pretty good for the New England Patriots despite being on the other side of 30 years old. He caught 85 of 102 targets for over 1,000 yards and four scores. He was the WR28 in fantasy points per game. So it isn't wild to think Diggs can be a solid mid-to-late-round draft pick for managers in 2026 in Washington. Harmon has Diggs as his WR42 after the deal.
