Texans reportedly add former No. 1 pick Jadeveon Clowney to an already imposing pass rush
A dominant Houston Texans defense just got better.
The Texans have agreed to terms with free-agent defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports. Terms of the deal weren’t initially reported. Clowney, 33, remains an effective effective pass rusher who tallied 8.5 sacks for the Dallas Cowboys last season.
The deal reunites Clowney with the Texans team that selected him No. 1 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. Clowney has been a valuable contributor on one-year deals late in his career with 5.5 sacks and 11 quarterback hits in 2024 with the Panthers and 9.5 sacks and 19 quarterback hits in 2023 with the Ravens.

He joins a Texans team that returns the core of arguably the NFL’s best defense from 2025. Houston allowed the fewest yards in the the NFL (277.2 per game) and the second fewest points (17.2 per game). He’ll fortify a pass rush that already features 5-time Pro Bowler Danielle Hunter (15 sacks, 22 QB hits) and first-team All-Pro Will Anderson (12 sacks, 23 QB hits).
The Texans rode their defense to a 12-5 record and 30-6 wild-card playoff win over the Pittsburgh Steelers last season. They lost in the divisional round to the New England Patriots in a game in which quarterback CJ Stroud threw four interceptions.
Houston’s hoping that Stroud can regain the form that made him a Pro Bowler and Rookie of the Year in 2023. If he does, Houston projects as a Super Bowl contender.
