Social media was not loving Caitlin Clark getting snubbed by TV network’s MVP graphic

The wild thing about Caitlin Clark is that whenever she gets mentioned, she elicits reactions.

But whenever she's not mentioned, she still elicits reactions.

And if they didn't already know that second part, one of the WNBA's broadcast partners just got a refresher from the folks on social media.

CAITLIN CLARK IS MISSING FROM ESPN'S NEW WNBA DOCUMENTARY AND THE FILMMAKERS WON'T SAY WHY

If you were watching Ion recently… What's Ion?

Ion. C'mon, y'know, Ion... it used to be PAX TV? They showed "Supermarket Sweep," and have since morphed into a quasi-sports network with some WNBA coverage.

What's confusing about that?

Anyway, they were talking about the WNBA's very healthy MVP race this season, but fans were quick to notice that a certain No. 22 who plays in Indianapolis was conspicuously absent.

Now, there are arguments against Clark being the MVP. A high number of turnovers and questionable defensive play among them.

But, considering Clark's play at points this season, including a 43-point performance against Seattle last month and a fourth-career triple-double on Friday night in Portland, it's kind of hard not to see her cracking the top five candidates.

ELLE DUNCAN BLAMES CAITLIN CLARK, HER FANS FOR MEDIA SMEAR CAMPAIGN WHILE IGNORING FACTS

And the way people reacted to Ion's post (remember: Ion is a broadcast network that shows lots of "Law & Order: SVU" reruns), a lot of folks on social media think she certainly is a top five candidate.

Tell us how you really feel about Ion... which is a broadcast network. A real one, we swear!

I don't mean to get all tin-foil hatty, but I'm starting to wonder if these omissions are by design, and simply to drive engagement on social media.

Why? Because it works.

When was the last time most people cared about the WNBA MVP race? About the same time someone said, "Hey, let's roll over to Ion and see what must-see programming they've got going on over there."

Never.

But by leaving out Clark, people start hammering their socials, thereby injecting Ion and the WNBA into people's feeds.

It's almost like something Andy Kaufman would do if he were running the WNBA or a fringe TV network.

And he probably would've had he not sadly passed... or did he?!
