Zoe Saldaña says Taylor Sheridan ‘really sees women’ as Lioness season three hits Paramount+

Comments Off on Zoe Saldaña says Taylor Sheridan ‘really sees women’ as Lioness season three hits Paramount+

Zoe Saldaña is a big fan of the way Taylor Sheridan writes female characters.

Season three of "Lioness" starts this Sunday on Paramount+, and that means Saldaña is running it back as CIA operator Joe.

While "Lioness" might not pull the same attention as "Yellowstone," I think there's a strong argument to be made that it's Sheridan's best work.

The show shines a light on the world of black operations in the CIA and military, with a focus on the women who serve in those shadowy and secretive roles.

One of the main (and completely unjustified) criticisms of Sheridan is that he can't write solid female characters. It's comical considering "Lioness" is about strong female characters, and Beth in "Yellowstone" might be the overall strongest character he's written on TV.

Now, Saldaña is making it crystal clear that Sheridan knows exactly what he's doing, and does it at a very high level.

ALI LARTER DEFENDS TAYLOR SHERIDAN'S WRITING OF FEMALE CHARACTERS, CALLING CRITICISM A 'FALSE NARRATIVE'

"If there’s one thing that I love the most, it’s men that really see women, and know how to write women. And, I’ve been very fortunate to work with a lot of creative men that do that," the "Lioness" star explained during an appearance on CBS Mornings on Wednesday.

She further added, "Taylor Sheridan writes great, complex, wholesome women that they may not be perfect, but then again, human beings weren’t made to be perfect. I love the fact that there is an accurate depiction of Joe. A woman that, in front of her team, she never breaks and she’s able to carry so much responsibility on her shoulders. And yet, when she’s in her private quarters, you see this human being grapple with just having to make everything work."

TAYLOR SHERIDAN'S NEW WAR MOVIE GETS MAJOR UPDATE, LEGENDARY DIRECTOR ATTACHED

Well said, Zoe. Well said. People who claim Sheridan can't write female characters have literally no idea what they're talking about.

It all stems back to Emily Blunt's FBI character in "Sicario," who is depicted as not really understanding the scope of the operation she's involved in.

Spoiler: That's the entire point of the movie!

She's not there because she's an expert. She's there because the CIA hitters and Delta Force team needed an FBI agent for legal cover, and they didn't want one asking questions.
