In the NFL, the strength of each team's weekly opponent is going to remain relatively static. That is certainly not the case in the college realm. An average Power Four football team can be four-touchdown favorites against a non-conference FCS program one week, and a three-touchdown underdog the next week when they play a blue-blood powerhouse like Ohio State. That disparity in the level of play is why it's important to take strength of schedule into account when drafting your College Fantasy Football team. Here are some schedule-related pointers for the upcoming season.

Bye weeks
Most teams have just one bye week to account for, though six teams have two bye weeks which we will discuss later. Analyzing the 2026 CFF schedule, the most crowded bye is Week 8 with 18 Power Four teams off, while Week 6 comes in second at 11 teams on bye. Here is a breakdown of the weekly schedule with each team that is on bye listed next to the corresponding week:
Drafters should be mindful of the bye-week traps that will hit your CFF roster in Weeks 6, 8 and 9. Week 8 is the biggest landmine of the 2026 schedule, with several important CFF programs such as Ohio State, Louisville, Georgia, Florida, Notre Dame, Washington, Penn State, etc. off that week. Over-leveraging with players on these teams will result in some very difficult start/sit decisions on who to drop in order to field a starting lineup when Week 8 comes around. Savvy managers should verify that their bye week obligations are spread out to avoid dumping half your roster because of a crowded bye week clogged roster situation. Weeks 12 and 13 are playoffs, so it's important to be aware of the six teams who have late byes during those critical portions of the CFF season. Houston and Texas Tech are the two most CFF-relevant teams that have a late bye, with the Big 12 having a stunning 12 teams on bye in the final three weeks of the season.
Teams with multiple byes
A few college football programs play a pseudo-preseason set of games before the regular season starts, collectively known as Week 0, there are six programs who have two bye weeks to offset the schedule anomaly. These teams are at a notable disadvantage from a fantasy perspective since you will have to face "keep or cut" decisions with a limited number of roster spots twice. There is an added disadvantage for players on USC and Stanford since they play lower division Group of Six programs that are prime matchups for fantasy purposes, but won't count towards the Yahoo CFF season standings.
Non-conference schedules
The first three weeks of the CFF season are when most Power Four programs slot in their three non-conference opponents. While college teams are at the mercy of the schedule makers for their nine conference games, they can schedule anyone they want in their non-conference slate. This leads to wide disparities in the talent level depending on each individual program's scheduling ethos. While new scheduling rules will be mandating that each Power Four conference plays at least one other P4 program in their non-conference slate, the Big Ten has no such guardrails this year, which offers advantages to the schools who choose to schedule cupcakes. Here are the four most fantasy-friendly non-conference schedules in the Big Ten.
Big Ten teams without a Power Four non-conference opponent
Outside of the Big Ten, three non-conference schedules standout in terms of their Charmin-like softness. Six ACC teams are saddled with quasi-ACC member Notre Dame as a non-conference opponent. This ACC-specific curse throttles the strength of schedule of those six, unfortunate programs each year and makes Louisville's G6/FCS non-conference schedule even more appealing. Texas Tech and Houston are strong Big 12 contenders and benefit massively from having scheduled a listless Oregon State, which counts as a "Power Four" team in name only since they were considered P4 when the game was originally scheduled.
Easiest non-conference schedules outside Big Ten
Easiest overall schedules in each conference
I included Notre Dame here because they play six ACC teams and their schedule is so easy it should warrant a formal NCAA review. The aforementioned Big Ten has a few tantalizing slates from a fantasy perspective, while the SEC schedules are pretty tough all around with relatively small advantages from week-to-week. The Big 12 has three very good teams with favorable schedules that could mangle several of their opponents.
Teams with easiest CFF schedules in P4 conferences
Tough draw for Stanford who plays their most appealing CFF opponent in the preseason, while Georgia Tech unfortunately plays both Georgia and Tennessee in their non-conference slate. Cincinnati has a decent draw early, but it runs a gauntlet of upper-tier Big 12 opponents once conference play starts. TCU has two byes and faces BYU/Utah/Texas Tech in the Big-12. Texas looks like a powerhouse this year, but it plays the nation's No. 1 most difficult schedule, including Week 2 vs. Ohio State. First-year Arkansas HC Ryan Silverfield is going to have his hands full, as the rebuilding Razorbacks play one of the top-five toughest schedules in the country.
