Le'Veon Bell arrested in Ohio hours after meet-and-greet over reported child-support payments

Former Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro Le'Veon Bell was arrested Sunday in Ohio hours after a meet-and-greet, arrest records show.

Bell was reportedly in Ohio to appear at an autograph signing at the Belden Village Mall. He was arrested hours later.

Bell's specific charges were not listed on his record, which states the arrest was "courtesy hold for another agency." Bell was reportedly arrested due to a warrant out of Michigan, according to CantonRep.com.

That would explain the "hold" note on Bell's arrest record. He was arrested while in Ohio, but is presumably being held for "another agency," presumably one in Michigan.

The arrest is reportedly related to child-support payments, per CantonRep.com. Bell's attorney, Thomas Shaffer, told CantorRep.com that Bell is being "inaccurately" charged based on his NFL salary even though he's been out of the league for years.

Bell allegedly owes over $50,000 in child support, per TMZ.

Bell does have ties to Michigan. He starred at Michigan State before being selected in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Steelers. After a solid rookie season, Bell emerged as one of the best running backs in the game.

Between 2014 and 2017, Bell averaged 1,119 rushing yards and 565.3 receiving yards per season. He made three Pro Bowls and was selected to two All-Pro teams during that period.

Ahead of the 2018 NFL season, however, Bell got into a contract dispute with the Steelers, leading to the running back sitting out the entire season. He returned the following year after signing a four-year, $52.5 million deal with the New York Jets.

He was never the same player after returning to action. Bell rushed for just 789 yards in his first year in New York. The following year, he continued to struggle, eventually leading to his release.

Bell then bounced around the league for the next season and a half, spending limited time with the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before he was out of the league following the 2021 NFL season.
