2-time Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard crashes during Stage 15, expected to miss remainder of race

Two-time Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard will be unable to finish the remainder of this year's race.

The cyclist wrecked in Stage 15 and will be unable to continue in the competition.

It remains unclear exactly what caused the wreck, but at least four cyclists were involved. Vingegaard appeared to go down hard and was holding his elbow on the ground.

He was seen getting out of the medical van and going in for an X-ray. Medical staff were assisting him, and Vingegaard had a noticeable limp.

At the time of the accident, he was reportedly sitting fifth in the peloton.

The wreck was bad and capped an out-of-the-ordinary day for Vingegaard. He was reportedly awoken, along with Tadej Pogačar, in the early hours of the morning by doping control.

"Someone knocked on my door at 2 in the morning. It really surprises me, it's fine for them to do tests, but when they affect sleep and performance. At first, I thought they weren't allowed to, but apparently, according to the rules, it's permitted."

Vingegaard has won the Tour de France two times so far in his career. He took home the yellow jersey in both 2022 and 2023.

The cyclist has made it competitive each of the past five years, though. From 2021 to 2025, if Vingegaard didn't win the Tour de France, he finished second.
